During the restoration of a ceiling painting, I was able to witness all stages of the work: First, I removed several layers of oil paint until the original watercolor, which had later been reworked with tempera paints, became visible. In consultation with the monument preservation authorities, the tempera version was retained. We then retouched the missing areas with watercolors, glue, and pigments and sealed the work. In the process, I gained valuable experience in restoration techniques, construction consulting, and architectural history, and learned to practice patience.
